Homeowner wasn't looking for a new cat, but a smol kitten who let himself in has them hoping he'll stay forever

Cats have a funny habit of showing up where nobody expects them. One minute, you're going about your day, and the next, there's a kitten staring at you like he's lived there his entire life. Usually, these surprise encounters happen outside, but apparently, some cats prefer to skip the introductions and move straight in.

That's exactly what happened to one person who discovered a tiny kitten inside their house with absolutely no explanation for how he got there. They've named him Socks, and he's so small that his claws barely hurt. He's already been enjoying toys left over from the family's previous cat, and they're hoping to make him a permanent member of the household.

There are a few things to sort out first, including installing a bedroom door and helping the family's dog get used to the new arrival. But Socks seems to be settling in just fine.

We love hearing stories about cats appearing out of nowhere. People find them hiding under cars, sitting on their porches, wandering into their workplaces, and occasionally strolling through an open front door. Some even follow complete strangers home and then act surprised when anyone questions their presence.

Somehow, these unexpected visitors up staying. A person starts by offering a little food or a safe place to sleep, and before long, they're researching cat food, buying litter boxes, and rearranging their furniture around a creature they hadn't even met a few days earlier.

It's especially funny when the cat seems completely unfazed by the situation. While the humans are trying to figure out where this animal came from and what they're supposed to do next, the kitten is busy exploring, playing, and finding somewhere comfortable to nap. As far as the cat is concerned, everything is going according to plan.

Of course, kittens have absolutely no understanding of how much work goes into welcoming a new pet. There's kitten-proofing to do, supplies to buy, and, in Socks' case, another animal to introduce. Meanwhile, the tiny newcomer is probably just interested in finding his next toy.

We're crossing our fingers that Socks gets to stay. He certainly picked an interesting way to meet his potential family, and it sounds like he's already winning them over.

Who needs an adoption application when you can apparently just show up at someone's house?

We wish we could walk into our house one day and find a random kitten waiting for us. Seriously, how do people get this lucky? Some people spend weeks looking for the perfect cat to adopt, and others just wake up to discover that one has moved in without asking. We'd have about a million questions about how the little guy got inside, but we'd probably forget all about them the second he came over for some cuddles.

Maybe Socks was just meant to end up with this family. He could've wandered into any house, but he happened to find one with leftover cat toys and people who already know how to care for a kitty. We'd like to think fate had a little something to do with it. Now we're just hoping he gets to stay!

Looks like this person has a new family member, whether they were planning on one or not! Socks might have shown up out of nowhere, but he's already got a name, some toys, and someone who's hoping he can stay. That's a pretty good start for a kitten who invited himself inside. Hopefully, everything works out with the dog, and Socks gets to make himself at home for good. We have a feeling this little guy is going to be very spoiled!
